Zinc started 2023 in a solid position and then fell in the first half, in the context of a decline in the base metals market. Zinc transitioned from insufficient supply to excess supply at the end of the year. The weak demand was due, among other reasons, to a slower economic recovery in China. Following this initial decline in the first half of 2023, zinc remained largely below the US$2,700 per metric ton (MT) level.
