BRASS INGOTS
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, and features good electrical and thermal conductivity and excellent resistance to corrosion. Due to its golden colour, it is widely uses in the jewellery and costume jewellery sectors, among others. It is also popular in the decorations sector, and is used in the manufacture of lamps, doorknobs and curtain rods, among others. The use of brass in the manufacture of musical instruments should also be highlighted. And, finally, brass is used in the construction of boats and propellers.
The proportions of copper and zinc in each alloy vary to give rise to brass with different properties. The percentage of zinc in industrial use normally varies between 30% and 40%.
This composition determines the mechanical characteristics, fusibility and capacity for use in casting, forging, stamping, and machining processes. Lead is often added to render the material more machinable.
