Highly resistant to corrosion, lead is a soft, ductile and malleable metal with a low melting point, and has been one of the most widely used metals since prehistoric times, particularly in the foundry sector.
The most common use of lead ingots is in the manufacture of accumulators and batteries.
However, not only lead ingot alloys are used in a wide range of industrial sectors. Molten lead ingots are commonly used as a wear-reducing agent in lubricants and as a corrosion inhibitor in furnaces.
Lead is also used in paints, varnishes and synthetic and artificial pigments in the chemical industry. In this field, the use of lead ingots in the production of naval paints as a means of preventing scaling on hulls should be highlighted.
Moreover, lead ingots are widely used in the manufacture and handling of acids, and as radiation shielding.
