The metal sector in Spain, one of the pillars of the national industry that employs more than 600,000 people, is going through a period of contrasts. While some branches, such as electric automotive, the manufacturing of components for renewable energy, and precision machinery, are experiencing sustained growth, other areas are under pressure from energy costs and international competition. Rising electricity and raw material prices continue to hamper the competitiveness of many SMEs, which represent 90% of the Spanish metallurgical industry.
